How We Started!

Garage art studio

I don’t start my art lessons off with art, or with the class rules, or with the expectations.

I start all my classes with a story; my story. Here it goes…

I have spent most of career teaching elementary school. I loved teaching! It was my passion. It brought me so much joy, until it didn’t anymore.

I tell my students that after 15 years of doing the same thing, people usually need a new challenge or just something different. That something different was Hot Potato!

The early days of art

As a child, I dreamed about the art version of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. A place where kids have access to all the art supplies and can be as creative as possible without worrying about the mess. That idea popped back into my head during another stressful day of virtual teaching in 2022.

And that idea never left. I tried to ignore it, telling myself that I didn’t know anything about business, that it was too risky, and that it would just be a dream. Luckily, it was a stubborn dream that just wouldn’t go away.

Finally, a friend said, “it would be a bigger mistake to not try.” And in that moment I decided to try.

Our first art lesson

I didn’t know how to start, but I did. I decided to convert my garage into an art studio. It wasn’t quite the Willy Wonka dream yet, but it was a start! I Invited a few close friends and held my first class on October 9, 2023!

I tell my students that if they have an idea, a dream, or an invention, no matter how young or old they are- go for it!

I promise them they will not regret it! I am living my dream!

If your dream is turning into an obsession like mine, I’m happy to answer any questions you have, share more details about my journey, and even give you a little pep talk to get started. Send me an email or reach out on Instagram.
