Our Mission & The Piranha RV

Hot Potato’s mission is to foster creativity and confidence through fun art experiences.

How do we achieve this?

By creating a balance between guidance and choice.

Starting with a blank canvas can feel overwhelming so we guide our students with project examples and simple templates, with lots of room to add in their own details. This is always so fun to watch because they come up with the most creative ideas.

To support these ideas, we provide choices in paint color and building materials (see image), while still being mindful of the balance between guidance and choice. Too much choice can be just as overwhelming as a blank canvas!

Encouraging creativity means that your child’s artwork will not look like our samples.

During our classes, my guidance is a suggestion, but our students get to make the final decisions about their art. And this is where their confidence blossoms, with the chance to have their ideas validated.

Here’s an amazing example from our Vintage RV painting session. A student asked if he could turn his RV into a Piranha RV. Of course you can!!! Then we looked up pictures of piranhas. He was beaming with pride by the end of the session.

We love creating these experiences where students get to flex their creativity and see that their ideas matter.
